Ottawa Eco-Logical Competition
March 2 - 4, 2012 | Ottawa
The Canada Green Building Council - Ottawa Regional Chapter is proud to present the third annual Ottawa Eco-logical Competition. This three-day weekend event engages post-secondary students and young building professionals in developing innovative, integrated building designs aimed to influence and inspire industry, government, and the public. Students from several post-secondary schools and disciplines compete in teams, guided by young environmental and building professionals, to develop new design ideas for a real client.
This year, we are proud to announce that students will be designing for Ottawa Community Housing (OCH). The competition will take place on March 2 to March 4, 2012. The competition will introduce the students to an Integrated Design Process (IDP) through a charrette workshop offered at the outset of the weekend and the winners of the competition will be announced during a gala reception at the end of the week-end which is open to the public.
The design subject for the competition is an OCH and Carlington Community Health Centre development of a Community Health Hub. As the client, OCH and CCHC are asking the students to develop a new sustainable building that has a low impact on the environment while providing essential social and medical services. The goal is to build a 70-unit seniors residence that is attached to a community health clinic, offering vital services for the residents to maintain their independence and to create a social hub that will strengthen the community.
Judges will base their awards on levels of innovation, influence, realistic conceptual designs, and team dynamics. Students are welcome to present in English or French. The Judges will be senior professionals and include a representative from the host organization. The Ottawa Chapter will publicly announce the contest and the results in various media outlets, and will display winning entries publicly on their website and to their membership, contacts, and the building industry as a whole.
Eco-Logical has been inspired by the annual Ecologez competition held in Montréal.
